Danza del Sacromonte 2009
Fathi Ben Yakoub & Matthieu Saglio / Autoprod. 2009 / CD
Description
The challenge taken up by the Moroccan violonist Fathi Ben Yakoub and the French cellist Matthieu Saglio is daring: to build over the Mediterranean a bridge made of eight strings. The violin-cello duo is one of the most underrated forms of chamber music, a chamber the walls of which have been knocked down by Fathi Ben Yakoub and Matthieu Saglio to open it to the world. Despite their origins far removed from each other (oriental arab classical music for one, and western classical music for the other), both virutosi join in their mutual attraction to the musical cultures of the world. They only had to create their own structure to start the dialogue. So remote, yet so close, between fusion and confusion, the project of Fathi Ben Yakoub and Matthieu Saglio has only eight strings, but they are so sensitive.
